INFJ Cognitive functions

INFJs are compassionate, caring, thoughtful philosophers who fight for the welfare of others. We will do a deep dive into INFJ Cognitive functions.

Introverted Intuition

INFJs have Introverted Intuition (Ni) as their dominant cognitive function. Introverted Intuition is a perceiving function. INFJs are extremely aware of their own thought patterns. This awareness eventually culminates in them having the ability to deduce the mental activity of others.

Extraverted Feeling

INFJs have Extraverted Feeling (Fe) as their auxiliary cognitive function. Extraverted Feeling is allows INFJs to tune into social dynamics and understand the complex social interactions among multiple individuals. This function works complementarily with introverted intuition to give INFJs the uncanny ability to understand others. This makes them the go-to person for emotional advice. However, self care is important to the INFJ as the INFJ is vulnerable to absorbing the negative emotions of others.

Introverted Thinking

INFJs have Introverted Thinking (Ti) as their tertiary cognitive function. As INFJs usually understand others better than others understand them, this results in the formation of unequal relationships. INFJs may become cynical and retreat into their personal space and gravitate towards using cold, impersonal logic to navigate daily life.

Extraverted Sensing

INFJs have Extraverted Sensing (Se) as their inferior cognitive function. When they are under stress, they may retreat into this function, binge-eating, over-exercising, or consuming an excessive amount of alcohol.

INFJs’ cognitive functions make them walking empaths who are adept at understanding others and helping them fight for their welfare. However, it is important for the INFJ to take care of themselves and remember that they are humans too. Here is how to determine the functional stack of each mbti type.
